Don't ever let me cut your hair...

I don't actually know how to prune anything. But that doesn't stop me from pruning everything.

This used to be a English tea rose. I was trying to do a hard winter pruning. It does not look happy anymore.

I think next year I definitely need to sign up for a rose pruning demonstration. They have them at almost every botanical garden or community garden this time of year. But I got lazy and decided to try it on my own instead. Alternatively, I could say that I got experimental and daring and decided to try it on my own instead.

  1. Hey, at least you can grow stuff. I'm still working on not killing my houseplants!! I finally bought a couple of herb plants to see if my black thumb is still black. So far, so good. I'm hoping my thumb will turn a nice light shade of gray by spring. :-)

  2. What kind of herbs did you get? I'm sure they'll do great!
Actually my houseplants look kind of grim. I'm really good at somehow both over- and under-watering. I realize it's a lot easier to grow plants in the ground than in containers. So now that I have a yard, I'm doing a lot better than before when I was balcony gardening in apartments. I always thought I had a black thumb, but I've decided to upgrade it to greenish-brown.

  3. I bought a thyme plant and a cilantro plant. I have seeds for parsley so I was going to make an attempt to grow the parsley from scratch :-( I've never had much luck figuring out the watering schedule for container plants, too. I can't wait for a little piece of land. I always wondered if I'd do better growing things in the ground than in containers! One day, maybe I'll be able to upgrade to a greenish brown, too! ;-)

  4. Nice! Thymes's been good for me because it doesn't mind my forgetting to water. I've been half and half on the cilantro. I really do think it's so much easier to grow in ground. I really hope you get a plot of land soon too! It's so gratifying even just to till and amend soil now. I'm sure you have a super green thumb, it's just hibernating, waiting for a chance to garden in the ground!

  5. I hope you're right! I have a friend who does have a plot of land who wants to start a garden. I may help her start her garden this spring. It may not be mine, but it'll get me started, I guess. She better watch out... I may hijack her garden!

  6. Ooh! That's awesome you'll have a spot to work in the spring! You should just make a Yoonjo flag, stick it in her yard and start squatting there...
